Counsellor-at-Law (1931) is a play by American playwright Elmer Rice (born 1892) [1].

How a New York lawyer is brought to the brink of ruin by the use of questionable tactics is the central theme of the play.

Performance history in South Africa

1938: Produced by David Goldblatt for the Playmakers, staged at the Library Theatre, opening 25 November. The large cast included, among others, Stanley Raphael, Sylvia Cantor, Sydney Witkin and Sylvia Lazarus.

1941: A Johannesburg Repertory Players production was directed by Minna Schneier, staged at the Library Theatre, opening 8 October, starring Sydney Witkin in the title role, Eileen Goudvis in the leading woman's role, and others in the cast were William Godfrey, C. Frederick Mill and Maree Petersen.
