Deon Furnell is a businessman and facilitator, and one-time an amateur actor, playwright and director.

Biography

He completed high school at D.F.Malan High School in Cape Town, where he was a member of the Drama Society (1972-1974), then did a B.Econ. degree at the University of Stellenbosch, where his ativities and societies included being a student leader, Vice Chairman of the Residence committee, an accredited athletics coach and an active member of USAT, the University Drama Society.

His further studies included a Master's Degree in Behavioural Psychology from the University of ST Paul Minnesota USA (1982 - 1984) and various professional certificates over the years.

His career encompassed 3 years of teaching at the Strand High School (Jan 1979 - Dec 1981), before moving to various marketing and training positions with major companies in South Africa, till his retirement in 2020. He then became a freelance business partner with Route to Consumer (Pty) Ltd.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

A member of the USAT dramatic society at the University of Stellenbosch, he wrote, acted in and directed the play As Hy Terugkom! ("If/when He Returns!") for the 1978 USAT Dramafees with students of the residences Huis Ten Bosch and Hombré at the University of Stellenbosch.
