The Substance of Fire

The Substance of Fire is a play by American playwright, screenwriter, television producer, and occasional actor Jon Robin Baitz (born 1961) [1]. Baitz lived in Durban for six years as a boy and he also wrote the play The Film Society which is set in Natal.


The original text

The play premiered at the Long Wharf Theatre, New Haven, Connecticut, in 1990 directed by David Warren in a workshop.

Presented by PACT Drama at the Alexander Theatre in 1993, directed by Anthony Akerman starring Emma-Jane Mezher (Sarah), Nicky Rebelo (Martin), Dale Cutts (Isaac), David Clatworthy (Aaron), Jacqui Singer (Marge) and Lisa Morris (Secretary). Design by James MacNamara, lighting design by Tersia du Plessis.
