Sishosonke Gideon Maphisa (Sisho) (18 February 1955- ) Drama lecturer, dramatist, director, designer and performer.

Biograpy

Born in Johannesburg, went to school at Madibane High School, has a BA Speech and Drama from the University of Zululand (1983), a BA Honours in Speech and Drama from the University of Durban Westville (1984) and an MA in Linguistics from the University of Stellenbosch (1993). Between 1984 and 2000 he was lecturer, later senior lecturer, in drama at the University of Zululand, acting as head of department between 1999-2000.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

In the time he performed in 11 productions designed 5, directed 14 (including works by Bob Leshoai, Rotimi, Mota, Achmat Dangor and William Shakespeare) and wrote 9 plays, directing all except one himself. These include Parallels (1981), We Were Robbed (1993), Yakhal’Inkomo (1996), After the Storm (1997), The Network (1998), Trash on White Paper (1999), Mahlathini (2000), The Long and the Short of Us (2000) and Only If (2000).
