Oh Dad, Poor Dad, Mamma's Hung You in the Closet and I'm Feelin' So Sad is a 1963 play by American playwright Arthur L. Kopit (born 1937)[1].

Sometimes also referred to as Oh Dad, Poor Dad, Mama's Hung You in the Closet and I'm Feeling So Sad in other English-speaking countries, including South Africa.

The original text

The full title of the play is Oh Dad, Poor Dad, Mamma's Hung You in the Closet and I'm Feelin' So Sad: A Pseudoclassical Tragifarce in a Bastard French Tradition, though it is more often referred to by the slightly shorter title Oh Dad, Poor Dad, Mamma's Hung You in the Closet and I'm Feelin' So Sad .

Translations and adaptations

Translated into Afrikaans as Ag Pa, Arme Pa, Ma het Jou in die Kas Gehang, Dis Daarom wat ek Kla by Aart de Villiers and Don Lamprecht in 1982.

Performance history in South Africa

1965: John Mitchell directed a production in the original English by the University of Cape Town's University Dramatic Society at the Little Theatre in May.

1991: Presented at the Rhodes University Drama Department Mini-Fest at the Rhodes University Theatre in August 1991, directed by Adrian Poulsen and Calum Stevenson, with the following cast: Ronae Jolliffe (Madame Rosepettle), Darryl Nel (Jonathan), Niqui Cloete (Rosalie), Adrian Poulsen (Commodore Roseabove), Ana Carrilho (Head Porter), and Sara Cross, Tina de Waal, Corinne Lamoral, Kathryn Rosmarin, Amanda Rothbart, Nick Saviddes.
