Durban Arts Association

Often referred to simply as Durban Arts.

Formed on 25 March 1983 as a non-profit organization under Section 21 of the Company’s Act to promote and foster the arts and culture across the broadest spectrum in the greater Durban. Originally run by Dennis Schauffer and Elizabeth Sneddon.

Subject to company’s acts audit with its books also audited each year by the City Council accountants.

Since the creation of the Ethekwini Municipality, this continues to provide most of the funding and the key brief to Durban Arts Association was and continues to be “to promote and foster the arts and culture across the broadest spectrum in the greater Durban (Ethekwini), among all its different communities”.

D'ARTS magazine

D'ARTS magazine is published by the Durban Arts Association and reflects the brief of Durban Arts - that of promoting the arts in Durban from grassroots to professional levels in all disciplines. The only magazine of its kind in KZN (and, possibly, the country), it received the first print publication award (1997/98) of theArts and Culture Trust of the President for its wide-ranging coverage of the arts.

It also has an Events list, a diary of all events for the forthcoming month produced by courtesy of the KZN arts website artSMart (www.artsmart.co.za).
