Capitola, or The Masked Mother and The Hidden Hand is a drama in three acts, by Colin Henry Hazlewood (1823-1875)[1].


The original text

Based on The Hidden Hand (or Capitola the Madcap), a serial novel by E.D.E.N. Southworth (first published in the New York Ledger in 1859). Hazlewood's dramatization was first performed at the City of London Theatre in 1860 published in London by T.H. Lacy, as No 104 in the series of Acting Editions of Plays.

Performance history in South Africa

1867: Performed in the Theatre Royal, Cape Town on 28 May by the Le Roy's Original Company company, with Poor Pillicoddy. The evening was offered as a benefit for Le Roy.
