Brigadoon [1] is an American stage musical with a book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe. It was first staged on Broadway in New York City in 1947 and in 1949 in London's West End.

The feature film of Brigadoon was released by MGM in 1954, directed by Vincente Minnelli, with Gene Kelly, Van Johnson, and Cyd Charisse in the leading roles.

Performance history in South Africa

1950: Staged by African Consolidated Theatres at His Majesty's Theatre, directed by Phil Levard, starring imported leads Louise Boyd and Michael O’Dowd. Olive King and June Hern were two notable local artists who were used in the chorus and in feature parts of imported musicals such as this one.

6 - 19 July, 1968: Staged by the Port Elizabeth Gilbert & Sullivan Society at the Port Elizabeth Opera House, directed by Helen Mann with musical director Peter K Woolston, with George Loopuyt as "Tommy Albright," David Blood as "Jeff Douglas," Cyril Beyleveld as "Donald Ritchie," Rose-Marie van Rensburg as "Flower Seller," Archie Lincoln as "Angus," Douglas Catt as "Sandy," Derek Scarr as "Andrew MacKeith," Pat Thompson as "Fiona MacKeith," Roslyn White as "Jean MacKeith," Elaine Bateson as "Meg Brockie," Bennie Gerber as "Charlie Cameron," Lyn Reynolds as "Maggie Abernathy," Alfred Porter as "Mr Murdoch," Trevor Hicks as "Sword Dancer," Jack Bruton as "Stuart Cameron," Mike Bateson as "Frank," and Loryn Wilson as "Jane Ashton".

1968: Presented by Carousel Productions, Cape Town, directed by Jennifer Craig, July 1968.

1991: Staged at the Pretoria State Theatre, directed by Francois Swart, with a cast including Mark Richardson and Sue Conyers.
