Bill Smuts (19**-). Designer, stage technologist, scene painter, director.

Career

After having worked at the Little Theatre in Cape Town, he worked for all the Performing Arts Councils during the 1960s and early 1970s. He was promoted to Production Manager of CAPAB in the beginning of 1974.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

He designed décor and costumes for Hedda Gabler (CAPAB 1964), Die Reënmaker (CAPAB 1965), The Rivals (PACOFS 1969).

He designed décor for The Trial (Little Theatre 1960), The Physicists (CAPAB 1964), The Beggar's Opera (CAPAB 1965), Ek Kenne Mansmens (CAPAB 1966), Dokter teen Wil en Dank, PACT 1966, Die Koningin en die Rebelle (CAPAB 1967), Die Ryk Weduwee (PACT 1968), Die Huigelaar (CAPAB 1968), Ghosts (NAPAC 1968), She Stoops to Conquer (NAPAC 1969), The Emperor (NAPAC 1969), Crime on Goat Island (NAPAC 1969), Houtjie van die Galg (PACOFS 1970), Die Staatsaanklaer (PACOFS 1970), Equus (Pieter Toerien 1975).

He designed and directed Under Milk Wood (Little Theatre 1959) and directed Bell, Book and Candle in 1961, Hansie die Hanslam for PACOFS, 1969 and Waiting for Godot for PACT, 1970.
