The African Own Entertainers was a black vaudeville group founded in 1929, whose repertoire consisted of a mixture of jazz, ragtime, comic sketches, jubilee and church (amakwaya) music. It was one of many which had developed out of the minstrelsy tradition of the 1920s, and they took their shows on the road throughout the Union of South Africa and beyond.
