Forty Carats [1] is a 1968 Broadway romantic comedy by Jay Allen (1922-2006) [2].

Adapted from Quarante Carats, a 1966 French play by Pierre Barillet [3] and Jean-Pierre Gredy [4].

Performance history in South Africa

1971: Staged in the Alexander Theatre in Johannesburg, directed by Taubie Kushlick, with Glynis Johns (Ann Stanley), James Leith (Peter Latham), Fiona Fraser (Mrs Margolin), Gordon Mulholland (Billy Boylan), Peter Elliot (Eddy Edwards), Sonya Spain (Maud Hayes), Maxine Goldberg (Trina Stanley), Olive Bodill (Mrs Latham), Tony Jay (Mr Latham) and Richard Boulton (Pat). The production opened in April 1971.
